Edinburgh (Edinburgh Daily News) January 15, 2026 – Primark has confirmed plans to close several in-store cafes in Edinburgh, with changes expected over the coming year.
Guests at many Primark locales are being informed of impending changes, as the business has verified intentions to close a number of in- store cafes over the coming time.
As it continues to develop its vesture and homeware lines, the low- cost fashion company, which is well- known throughout the UK and Ireland, where it operates as Penneys, is examining how space is used inside some of its larger stores.
Four cafe concessions have been designated for check as part of this evaluation, according to Primark, with opinions grounded on store size and position. According to Mirror UK, one of the impacted areas is on the islet of Ireland.
A spokesperson said:
“We know how important our stores are to our customers and we’re constantly reviewing them to ensure we provide the best shopping experience.
As we’ve expanded our own product offering, we are adapting our spaces so that each store is best set up to cater to local customer preferences. As part of this, we have been reviewing our in-store concessions and considering how we maximise and best use the space we have in our stores.
Over the next 12 months customers will start to see the closure of some concessions. These decisions are being informed by the size and location of each store.”
The Primark cafe on Belfast’s Royal Avenue will be among those ending, according to the high road mammoth. Princes Street in Edinburgh, Birmingham High Street, and Glasgow’s Braehead shopping center are the other three locales impacted.
Primark cafes have gained fashionability lately due to its themed pop- up guests , which are constantly told by notorious television series and pictures like Hello Kitty, Stranger effects, and The Simpsons.
The spokesperson added:
“As this will be managed over the next 12 months and beyond, no Primark colleagues are currently impacted.
However, we appreciate it may impact some of our partners and we’re committed to managing this process with care and transparency, supporting them throughout.”
Will closures lead to permanent store shutdowns or temporary ones?
No substantiation indicates the four affected Primark locales in Ireland will face endless shutdowns; reports point to short- term closures, similar as rainfall- related ones during Storm Éowyn before in January 2026, rather than structural retail exits. Primark’s sanctioned updates confirm functional pauses for safety across Irish stores without plans for endless changes.
Primark’s sole verified 2026 endless check remains the Dartford store in England, driven by form costs and propinquity to other spots issues not cited for Irish branches.
Irish Primark spots continue normal trading post any detail pauses, fastening on expansion away amid stable consumer demand. Shoppers face no long- term access loss, unlike epidemic- period cases where temporary gridlocks frequently led to endless opinions for weaker retailers.
