Westfield Road (Edinburgh Daily News) January 14, 2026 -A 45-year-old man Paul Menzies has been sentenced to life imprisonment after being convicted of murdering a man in Edinburgh.

Paul Menzies, who killed 53-year-old Brian Ramsay in June 2024, will go to prison for at least 18 years.

After a trial at Edinburgh High Court, Menzies was sentenced on Wednesday, January 14.

On Friday, June 7, 2024, at about 12:55 p.m., officers were called to Westfield Road due to concerns about a male inside a property. At the scene, Mr. Ramsay was declared deceased.

Detective Chief Inspector David McAlinden said:

“This was a violent attack that cost Brian Ramsay his life, and Menzies will now face the consequences of his despicable actions. While this conviction cannot change what has happened, I hope it gives Brian’s family and friends some closure.

I want to reassure the public that violent incidents such as this will not be tolerated in our communities, and our officers will continue to work tirelessly to bring those responsible to justice.”

What evidence did prosecutors present at trial?

There’s no detailed public reporting yet that breaks down all of the specific particulars prosecutors led in substantiation in Paul Menzies’ trial, beyond high ‑ position descriptions. Still, from available content many crucial beaches are clear.

CCTV/ videotape footage Jurors were shown stairwell CCTV which captured Menzies pecking Brian Ramsay, including Ramsay raising his hands to show he was unarmed shortly before the attack.

The case summary refers to Ramsay being set up with fatal stab injuries at the Westfield Road property and to medical substantiation about the nature and inflexibility of the injuries, used to support the argument that this was a deliberate, murderous attack rather than tone ‑ defence or accident.
