The incident unfolded at the junction of Hope Street and Meeks Road around 12.55pm on Monday, 9 February. According to Police Scotland, two teenagers fled the scene towards Dollar Park immediately after the robbery. The victim escaped serious injury but remains deeply shaken by the ordeal.

What happened during the robbery?

Detectives detailed that the elderly woman was targeted in broad daylight on a busy street. She was pushed forcefully to the ground before her handbag was snatched. Police enquiries, including CCTV analysis, are underway to trace the perpetrators.

As reported by Detective Sergeant Chris Scott of Police Scotland,

“This is a despicable attack on an elderly woman in the town centre. Thankfully the victim was not seriously hurt but she has been left badly shaken by what happened.”

Who are the suspects police are seeking?

The first suspect is described as a white male in his teens, of slim build, wearing black Nike trousers, a black and grey Nike jacket, black and grey Nike 95 trainers, black gloves, a black face covering and a black crossbody bag. The second is also a white teenager of slim build, dressed in a black Montirex jacket, black trousers, black Nike 95 trainers, black gloves, a black crossbody bag and with his face covered. STV News coverage aligns with these descriptions from the police appeal.

What evidence are officers reviewing?

Investigators are combing CCTV footage from the area and have requested the public to check private cameras, doorbell devices or dash-cams between Hope Street and Dollar Park for potential sightings of the suspects running from the scene.

What should witnesses do next?

Detective Sergeant Chris Scott emphasised the need for swift action, stating:

“It’s vital that we trace the males responsible. I’d urge anyone who recognises the descriptions or saw what happened, to come forward.”

He made a direct plea to parents or carers of local youths, asking them to report any relevant information, however minor. Contact details include Police Scotland on 101, reference 1267 of 9 February, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 for anonymity.

Police have classified the incident as a robbery and continue their investigation into this targeted assault on a vulnerable pedestrian.
