The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo has announced the theme for the beloved tradition in preparation for its 2027 run, dubbed ‘The Same Heartbeat ’.
The next annual show aims to unify individuals and ‘find common ground ’, with an emphasis on music and the rhythm each person beats to. While each year of the epic performance represents a different theme and aspect of the military, the Royal Navy will lead the 2027 service. The three-week schedule will span from the 6th of August to the 28th.
Although Military talent and performers will be showcased with a special spotlight on drumming, the defining pride of the performance is its unification of international talent with Scottish and British talent; As seen in the monumental moments each year brings, and the exemplary performances this year, including bands from New Zealand, Germany, Qatar and the United States. Reinforcing the intention behind 2027’s ideology of moving to the same beat.
The forthcoming annual show will be directed by Alan Lane, the latest creative director to be appointed since their induction in 2024, learning in preparation for the 75th edition of the show the following year in 2025. Sharing on the official Royal Edinburgh Tattoo website, Alan Lane solidifies the meaning of the Tattoo:
“From the precision drill of Qatar to the Motown of the United States, the whole world was on our stage as we celebrated the importance of bringing people together to share cultures”
Similarly to the next performance, 2026’s theme ‘Call To Gather’ honoured the soldiers called to service in the First World War, highlighting the unity of people and the power of Pipes. This year’s show amassed 225,000 attendees, hailing from all over the world and ramping up excitement for next year and the next wave of talent to march the Edinburgh Castle Esplanade.
